Devín Castle - the oldest castle in Slovakia located in the suburb of Devín. Since 1961, it has been national cultural heritage. It is situated at the picturesque confluence of rivers Danube and Morava. The first written mention dates back to 864. In the 9th century, this place is coupled with the name of prince Rastislav, who built here a monumental Grand Moravian fortress. In the 13th century, a stone castle was built, in the 16th century a gothic-renaissance fortress, in 1809, it was destroyed by the Napoleonic army. Since 1973, archaeological research and castle conservation have been underway. City Museum Bratislava –Devín Castle – Slavic roost opened two expositions here – in the cellar of the central castle, there is an exhibition room used for seasonal topical exhibitions; the upper castle cave houses a permanent exposition named Devín Castle Construction Development. Most important event in Devín Castle is the Fencing, Martial Arts and Historic Crafts Festival traditionally organised in August. In 2008, it will be 15.8.-17.8.2008. Information - www.muzeum.bratislava.sk

Educational path under the Devín Castle provides nature lovers access to protected nature reserve Záhorie-Morava flat, which belongs to wetlands of international significance according to the Ramsara Convention. A professional guide may show you the best preserved inundated flower meadows in Central Europe. Along the river, there are meanders and picturesque coves with an abundance of rare birds.
