Zagreb County (Republic of Croatia)

Intensive co-operation between the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and Zagreb County dates back to 2003. Several meetings were held during the short period of partnership, which resulted in many joint projects.
Amongst others, one project arose from an interest in young people from Zagreb County to studying at secondary schools in the Bratislava Self-Governing Region, mainly those focusing on wine production - Secondary Fruit and Vine-Growing School in Modra, and reciprocally, Slovak students in Zagreb County schools.
The Economic Forum of the Self-Governing region, with its first part held in April 2004 in Zagreb and then on September 29-30th, 2004, in Bratislava, belongs to important joint events. The second part of the Economic Forum was held during the last days of September 2006 at the premises of Pezinok Castle, with the participation of the delegation from Zagreb County led by its Governor Mr. Stjepan Kožič and a 15-member delegation of businessmen led by the Chairman of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, who met and held discussions with Slovak SMEs representatives.
The major objective of the Economic Forum was to open space for the presentation of both regions, their economic potential and mainly to facilitate the working relations of SME representatives. The chairman of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Zlatan Fröhlich, confirmed interest in the Croatian market in Slovak companies, and also interests in joint projects. Similarly, tourism development is of mutual interest. The port in Rijeka may open new possibilities to Slovak business community.
Representatives of Zagreb County participated as observers at IInd Forum of V4 Regions, held in September 2005, in Bratislava.
The Bratislava Self-Governing Region hosted 2 staff from Zagreb County dealing with the EU affairs, who visited Slovakia to gain experience with pre-accession funds utilisation.
