Region – the city of Shanghai (People’s Republic of China)
Co-operation between the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and the The City of Shanghai Region commenced during the first year of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region’s existence, i.e. in 2002. Shortly after that, the first reciprocal visits of representatives from Bratislava the Self-Governing Region and The City of Shanghai Region were held. Joint discussions resulted in the Co-operation Protocol that was signed on April 8th, 2003, in Shanghai, and was preceding the Agreement on Partnership and Co-operation between the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and The City of Shanghai Region, which was signed on November 10th, 2003, in Bratislava.
The Bratislava Self-Governing Region views co-operation with Shanghai as very important mainly in the field of economy, also due to the fact that Shanghai is an important business centre of eastern Asia. The chairman of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region guaranteed the Co-operation Agreement signed between the Bratislava Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and the Shanghai Economic Chamber in May, 2004.
In July 2004, the business mission from CECC company, led by its President Mr. Cao Baijun, visited Slovakia and Bratislava and expressed their interested in investments, development of trading relations and tourism. Within cultural co-operation, the Bratislava Self-Governing Region cooperated in a junior international ballet and dancing contest held in Shanghai, or assisted in preparing a joint publication about Shanghai’s sister regions. Ms. WU Jinlan is the honorary representative of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region in the The City of Shanghai Region.
