State of Burgenland (Republic of Austria)

Co-operation with regions in neighbouring countries belongs to the priorities of foreign affairs of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region. Also, co-operation with the Austrian State of Burgenland follows the same lines.
Both regions meet regularly during a variety of important social events, and also other working occasions – projects, conferences, anniversaries, etc. Though, priorities are mainly economic co-operation and development, completion of transport infrastructure in both regions, tourism (mainly co-operation of wine routes –Malokarpatská vínna cesta and Weinviertel), and culture (co-operation of galleries).
Representatives of regions maintain contacts also informally, e.g. on May 1st, 2004, when new countries joined the EU, Euro-festival entitled „Without borders“ was held at the so called „Trihedron“ (a joint frontier of the three countries) located at the territories of Čunovo – Rajka – Deutsch Jahrndorf. The event was organised jointly, under the auspices and with participation of top officials from these regions – the chairman of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region, chairman of Györ-Moson-Sopron County and Landeshauptman of the State of Burgenland.
Companies from the State of Burgenland and the Bratislava Self-Governing Region work together intensively on joint projects within the cross-border co-operation programme Interreg IIIA, mainly within the CENTROPE group.
